Beginners seeking work-from-home opportunities are getting an overwhelming amount of information thrown at them. If you are one of these people, don't worry. In the beginning, it can be confusing and frustrating and that is because of all the information! You are getting an information overload and your brain probably doesn't know how to dissect all of this stuff. It's all right. The following information might help you a little.

Most of the opportunities being sent you via email, snail mail and/or phone are most likely trash. A lot of the "business opportunities" floating around on the Internet are just plain scams. However, there are real work-at-home opportunities out there for you. Granted they are a little more difficult to find through the other trash. I want to help you make the best work-at-home decision for yourself and avoid the phonies along the way.

1. You want to wean yourself into working from home. It is a huge change from working for an employer. You will need to be self-disciplined, a hard worker, persistent and talented. There are plenty of real work-at-home opportunities out there waiting for you, but you can't expect to find one overnight. Keep the job you have now that pays the bills. When you can start paying your bills with your work-at-home job, then you can quit. A good idea is to also have a safety net for when you do quit. Open a savings account and get cash taken out of your paycheck and deposited directly into your savings. This way, you will feel a little safer when you take that leap from the 9-5 into the wonderful world of self-employment.

2. Research! This will probably take you some time. However, once you can instantly recognize the illegitimate deals from the real deals, you will be whizzing through opportunities. Search for something you already enjoy doing. You might find that your favorite hobby can become your own work at home opportunity.

3. Choose a niche market that you would like to get involved in. For example, if you love animals, you can sell other people's animal products through their affiliate program and earn money with no inventory, no space needed for stock, etc. Know your online niche market. Sign up for similar newsletters, read relevant websites, etc. Offer something to the online world that no one else does.

4. You might even want to write a business plan for yourself once you have chosen your field. This will force you to answer some hard questions that need answers. It will also help you with your marketing plan, as well as your business goals. Goals are important for every type of business. You can create weekly, biweekly, monthly, quarterly or yearly goals. You need goals so you know where you want to be in x amount of time. Make sure they are always realistic. You can always revise your goals, because it can take some time to know what you are capable of. When you do, your goal setting and achieving will come with ease.

5. Last, make sure you know what the IRS expects of you. Find out what forms you will need to fill out, see if you need to pay quarterly taxes and if you need an employer ID number. Be sure to check out your state's tax laws as well.

Good luck and stay persistent. Research, plan, make difficult decisions and succeed!
