The city Nottingham lies in the heart of the East Midlands.

Originally an industrial centre.

It is a regional capital and one of the UKs most stylish cities. Set within a county of outstanding natural beauty that includes Sherwood Forest, lively market towns and wonderful historic buildings.

Many famous people have come from Nottingham notably those thirteenth century outlaws from Sherwood Forest, Robin Hood and his Merry Men. It is a good base for exploring Sherwood Forest and the rest of the shire. Nottingham is known to literary buffs for its association with author D. H. Lawrence and its medieval sheriff, who played an important role in the Robin Hood story.

The city doesnt have many attractions, but its a young and vital city and is very student oriented thanks to its two large universities.

In recent years, the emergence of a buzzing late night bar scene has begun to rival its famous nightclub scene. Much of the action happens within the rejuvenated Lace Market Hockley area where dozens of fashionable bars like Bluu, Brass Monkey and Dogma have emerged. Nearby, Cabaret and Jongleurs host contemporary comedy.

Two good retreats from the masses are The Loft, a groovy outpost on the bohemian Mansfield Road and Moog, an unpretentious yet hip bar in student friendly Radford.

Of course, there are numerous wonderful country pubs scattered across rural Nottinghamshire. At Colston Bassett in the south of the county for instance, youll find The Martins Arms this award winning pub has received commendations for its impressive selection of beers, wines and malt whiskies.

The city has a well deserved reputation for great clubbing. If party anthems in a massive club is your style, The Works is the perfect place for you. Ocean is a new multimillion super club with plush themed rooms. If your music tastes are more underground, The Bomb and Stealth play the latest electronic. Indie fans, meanwhile, can count on The Rig for the latest hits, your favourite classics and the odd celebrity. For a night of stylish clubbing Media is a stunning converted theatre with tiered dance floors and the funky Market Bar features sumptuous decor and late night grooves.

Youll also find a wide range of leisure and entertainment options throughout Nottinghamshire. From bowling and the cinema, to live music and the theatre, weve venues to suit all tastes and ages. The Cornerhouse, the Broadway, Nottingham Arena, The Royal Centre, and Nottingham Playhouse are right in the city centre, hosting concerts, shows, live music and film.
