This treatment is a technique of smoothing the skin and unclogging skin pores. Although you may be surprised, microdermabrasion acne treatment can be as effective as surgical and laser treatments for acne.

The procedure is relatively new, but its results are more than promising. The microdermabrasion acne machine is used first to clean the skin and peel out the dead cells' layer. In doing that it clears out the blocked pores. The technique is similar to rather gently vacuuming your skin as opposed to the invasive action of surgery. The second phase of the process is spraying the skin with an aluminium oxide. This spray eliminates the outer layer of dead skin cells.

So in summary, microdermabrasion acne treatment effectively works in two ways. Firstly, existing acne is treated by the unclogging of the pore and secondly, the removal of the dead skin cell layer significantly reduces the chances of the pores being clogged. This in turn decreases the formation of those annoying pimples.
As well as having the advantage of treating your acne, you will notice that your skin complexion (smoothness) will be greatly increased because this procedure removes the irregularities present on the skin surface.

Please remember, that microdermabrasion acne treatment is not a definitive cure for acne but rather acts to decrease the risk factors that predispose to the formation of acne.
On average 6 treatments spaced 1-2 weeks apart are required to achieve the best results, although, one session of microdermabrasion can provide beneficial results, these results are not permanent and you will have to repeat the procedure every 4-6 months as part of maintenance treatment.

Precautions you should take:
The risks associated with microdermabrasion acne treatment are not very high due to the fact that, unlike surgery, it does not require any form of anaesthesia.

Mircodermabrasion may cause short or long-term pigment problems. Your skin tone may be increased temporarily or decreased for a longer period. It is safe to carry out procedures in Roaccutane patients but not until 6 - 9 months after they have finished treatment.

Also, if you have had any cold-sores, it would be advised that these are treated and cleared first before you undergo microdermabrasion.
