Making Money from the Internet - It's in the System
When trying to get started making money from the internet, some seem to be under the impression that all you have to do is put up a website and your customers will just magically find you. The truth is that to be successful creating income online takes several factors working together. Internet marketers must be adept at the following:
1. Selection of products to be marketed: It really doesn't matter if you are the greatest website creator in the history of the net; if you don't have a product that is in demand, your site will sit idle while your prospects look elsewhere. If you are just getting started, affiliate programs are a great way to get your feet wet; selling products created by someone else. But, if you aren't joining affiliate programs that are in demand, frustration will soon follow. Information products (E-books, audio and video courses, etc.) are some of the hottest selling items on the net, as they can be downloaded immediately after purchase, but just like everything else, you'll have to do your homework to select the great ones from the dogs.
2. Website creation: If you are marketing affiliate programs, this may be as simple as learning how to put up a pre-sale page, where you highlight the benefits of the product before sending your customers on to the actual site where they can purchase. However, if you are selling your own product(s) then you will need a serious education in website design, or prepare to pay to have your site created. Not everyone wants to put in the effort to create a high selling website (or have the creativity to make it happen), which is why, again, I think affiliate programs are the way to start out. You will learn as you advance what good sites look like.
3. List Building: If you want serious, long term income from the internet, you need a list of subscribers who you have built a strong relationship with. These subscribers will come to trust you for the information you provide, and much thought and effort should go into every message that is sent to them. You should be prepared to give some items free to your list, while passing along your best offers for them to purchase. Just make sure that when you suggest a product to your list, you have used it yourself and believe in its benefits. Nothing will kill your online efforts faster than being dishonest with your list.
4. Attracting Targeted Traffic: Some think that they can put up a website, purchase tons of clicks and just let the numbers do the work. This is a recipe for disaster. You want to attract traffic that is "targeted," meaning they already have a tendency to buy what you are selling even before they get to your site (again, this is why your list is so important). But, list aside, you want to plan your marketing efforts so that you are attracting people interested in your niche area. Trust me, 100 highly targeted visitors to your site will convert to sales better than thousands of drop in, casual visitors ever will. Take the time to educate yourself on how to attract those coveted visitors and your success will be nearly assured.
There are other areas that you will have to address as you progress on your way to earning a living online, but these are certainly the four that should be your starting point in your education to be an internet marketer. Each of these must be working if you are to succeed, and none can be expected to stand alone. It's a system that works together interactively that will be the formula to fuel your efforts for making money from the internet. Your system should look like this: Outstanding Product + Eye Appealing Website + Opt-in List + Targeted Traffic = Success. Get started on building your system, the effort will be well rewarded.
