Be aware that this may take time as its common for developers to out - bid self builders and you also want to ensure that you are happy with the land you acquire.

Although it will work out more expensive an option available to those looking to self build there home is buy land that has an old house on it and knock it down. This is likely to be easier to find and the extra cost may be worth the time you will save looking for a vacant plot of land.

Once this has been done you can start to think about the design of your home. You may decide to keep it simple and similar to other homes in the area or you may want to make it completely unique to your tastes. However, do think about what is more likely to sell should you put it on the market later on down the line.

When it comes to the actual building of your self build home think about whether you want to do most of the labour work yourself or not. Doing it yourself will save lots of money but if you have no experience whatsoever then either get a friend who has or get professionals in.
