Focus On What You Want
Published by Max Ng - Jun 9, 2007 at 00:45:44
I used to complain a lot about work and everything under the sky. I did it so often that it became a habit. It is like I enjoyed complaining about the issues but I did not bother to think of any solutions. A few good friends told me that I was a very negative person and I should try to look at the bright side of things.
Unfortunately, I still did not realize that. So for my early parts of my life, all I know is to indulge in complaining about life. I would whine about what I did not want out of life. I would whine about how life is unfair to me compared to those who are more fortunate than me.
Luckily, there are always different people in my life that keep reminding me again and again until I got the message one day. That particular day, I was attending a seminar by successful people. One of the speakers asked the audience this question:
"Are you one of those people who just love to whine and do nothing?"
At the instant, I realized that I was one such whiner. By recollecting my past experiences and feedbacks from various people, I knew that I was a very pessimistic and negative person. Though people have been telling me to change but no one really told me how to change. I wanted to change but I did not know how to change.
Actually, the solution is very simple. It is about changing my focus. From that speaker, I learned that I should be focusing on what I want instead of what I do not want. When I was focusing on what I do not want, all I was doing is just complaining and whining about everything under the sky. The situation remains the same despite all my complaints. But the moment I focus on what I want, I can plan and take actions to achieve what I want. In this way, I will change my situation. I will no longer be subjected to my fate!
For example, certain kind of works requires you to work in wee hours. If that is what you do not want, instead of complaining that your work situation is very bad, you can focus on what you want. Look around and decide what kind of work you want to do. Then think about how you can go about achieving it. Maybe you need to take up part time study to qualify for the kind of work that you desire to have.
The idea that I will like to share with you:
Focus on what you want by planning and taking appropriate actions
